Dave Cooper
I had been a regular doodler at boring work meetings for many years, before joining an art evening class run by Lis Smith (Dotiseo) in Bratton in the 1990s. Due to family commitments and a love of music I parked my painting for singing in a choir. In the last few years I find I have more time and I am now able to sing and paint, but not at the same time.
It is taking some time to find my inspiration and get the artistic juices flowing, but things are slowly returning. As an aircraft engineer I find it difficult to move away from detail and produce looser art work more in the Impressionists style. I love most styles of art old and modern and find much inspiration in the pre-Raphaelites, the Impressionists, Banksy, Freud and other modern artists. The medium of oils suits me well, however, I also enjoy using pastels and watercolour, but with less success. Finding my style and technique is still something that eludes me, but the process of discovery is part of the joy of art. Many failures and some successes.
