Exhibition Rules
Information for members – exhibiting at our exhibitions
1 You can display three types of art
1.1 ORIGINAL WORK ready to hang by the artist
IMPORTANT: framed prints will not be hung at Lacock Art Group Exhibitions
a. Each member is responsible for their own artworks. If you are unable to be at the Hall to help set up the exhibition you will not
be able to take part. Exceptions to this are at the discretion of the Chair.
b. All framed works are displayed on the boards provided, if under 50cm x 70cm, or on the stage if larger. There should be no
more than one piece of art from a member on each display board – this is to ensure fairness in the hanging arrangement.
b. All work must be well strung/wired for hanging and properly labelled on the back. See notes in item called General below.
c. Pricing of artwork is up to each artist.
d. Each artist can exhibit up to eight units of art.
f. Commission on sales is 10%.
g. Note: only artwork in this category is listed on the application form – do not list any prints or cards on the form.
h. To encourage all members exhibiting to take part in arranging the exhibition, LAG does not use a hanging committee.
1.2 ORIGINAL & PRINTED WORK - UNFRAMED
a. Unframed artworks are displayed in the browser stands provided by LAG – again original and printed, unframed art
must be kept separate from each other and therefore displayed in separate, clearly identified browsers.
b. All unframed artwork must be mounted with backing board in a cellophane pouch and be labelled,
c. Pricing of all artwork is up to each artist's discretion.
d. There is no hanging fee for original prints and cards that are not hung on the boards or displayed on the easels.
e. Commission on sales is 10%.
1.3 ART CARDS
a. LAG provides several large card display racks for display.
To be fair to all members no individual card display racks will be allowed.
b. Cards must be in a see-through sleeve/pouch with clear labelling indicating who the artist is and the price.
c. Prices for all cards is set by the committee prior to the exhibition (this is to simplify activity at the sales desk).
d. There are no fees for displaying cards.
e. Commission on sales is 10%.

2. GENERAL
a. Art painted onto materials (eg. slate) that are not suitable for hanging may be displayed on the stage.
b. All art work must be properly strung and framed (where applicable) – do not rely on loops, hooks or clips attached to the
backboard – if at all possible ‘D’ plates/mirror plates should be used and fastened directly to the back of the framework.
Avoid the use of screw eyes, they are insufficient means for the secure hanging of artwork.
c. Title/display labels (provided by LAG) should be attached to the bottom of the framed art using Blu-tack or tape.
d. All work should look good from the back as well as the front.
e. Insurance for the artwork is the responsibility of the artist and the Lacock Art Group cannot be held liable for damage to
framework/artwork during a Lacock Art Group exhibition or during the set-up and dismantling of the exhibition.
f. If artwork is not for sale it should be clearly labelled as such.
g. To avoid potential issues or breaching copyright laws:
i. To hang artwork at a Lacock Art Group exhibition, artists must be a member of LAG and be up to date with their
subscriptions/fees and have paid the appropriate hanging fee for each piece of artwork hung.
j. The Committee reserves the right to reject any artwork that they feel may cause offence or breach copyright laws etc.
3. STEWARDING
With up to three exhibitions a year in the Village Hall, exhibitions are a major part of what we do at LAG, therefore, as with all our other activities, we expect members to participate as much as possible. If you are not exhibiting, you are still expected to help with putting up/taking down the displays and stewarding, as far as possible (we do recognise that some members are unable to help with particularly physical work). We usually meet at the Village Hall at 8.30am on the first day of each exhibition to set up and by 4pm on the final day to put away stands and collect unsold artwork. Exhibitions are a group activity for the benefit of everyone and we encourage all members to join in the fun and work together as a group.
4. SALES
Unlike many other exhibitions, the purchaser usually takes away the item bought immediately they have paid for the artwork. Many of those visiting the exhibition come from outside Wiltshire and are on day trips so it is easier for them to take artwork with them.
Gaps left in the display will not necessarily be filled by the same artist whose work has just been sold. Reserve paintings from all club members will be considered to replace sold paintings.
